second trimester must haves

Second Trimester Must Haves

Congratulations, You’ve already completed 1/3 of your pregnancy! So welcome to the second trimester must haves!

As many of you might know, nausea doesn’t just stop right when you hit the second trimester. So, if you are still experiencing nausea, read my first blog post on the first-trimester must haves. Those must-haves can still be used during the second trimester, especially prenatal vitamins.

Woo Hoo! Second Trimester!

The Second Trimester is probably my favorite out of the three trimesters. Finally, you might start feeling better. The baby kicks are increasing every day, and your baby is small enough that you’re still able to breathe.

At the same time, the second trimester is when you start showing. Well, you might begin looking pregnant and uncomfortable earlier, especially if it’s not your first pregnancy.

My belly popped so quickly with my 3rd/4th pregnancy. It could have been because my 2nd pregnancy was a twin pregnancy or because I never fixed my Diastasis Recti, the stomach muscle separation I got during my twin pregnancy.

Second Trimester Must-Haves

Now let’s talk about a few must haves for the second trimester.

Number one on my list would be pregnancy clothes. With my first pregnancy, I didn’t buy pregnancy clothes when I first started showing.

Instead, I bought a few stretchy clothes that I thought would grow with me until the end of my pregnancy.

But that probably was one of my biggest mistakes because when I hit the third trimester, I had to rebuy clothes that would fit me and not show the bottom half of my belly.

So, if you want to save money in the long run, invest in some cute pregnancy clothes, especially if you’re planning to grow your family in the future.

Pregnancy Clothes

Pregnancy clothes are designed to grow with your body which is perfect to wear throughout the whole pregnancy.

I was so surprised at how much I grew and where I grew. It wasn’t just my belly that had gotten bigger, and on top of that, I just kept getting bigger, rounder, and wider.

I honestly thought that I was about to pop—especially the last couple weeks of the pregnancies.

Another quick tip if you want to save extra money is to buy nursing bras, nursing tank tops, and nursing pajamas. This way, you can use them for a more extended period, especially if you’re planning to nurse/pump.

You can get your pregnancy clothes at many stores, whether at Motherhood Maternity, Kindred Bravely, Target, Old-Navy, Amazon, etc.

#2 – Pregnancy Body Pillow

I never had the luxury of buying a pregnancy body pillow with my first pregnancy.

And I was SO uncomfortable. I honestly thought having one million pillows on my bed would help me get the comfort I needed.

Almost ten years later, and I still remember the last few weeks of my first pregnancy. I even tried sleeping on the floor because the mountain pile of pillows never helped.

So my next must-have for the second trimester is a pregnancy body pillow.

We splurged on the body pillow in my second pregnancy, and it made a huge difference. The pillow does a great job hugging your beautiful growing belly, legs, and back.

Different Types of Pillows

I got an opportunity to use two different pregnancy body pillows. One was a half C shape, while the other was a U shape. The U shape pillow did take the extra room on our bed, but it was by far my favorite.

When you’re pregnant, you can’t sleep on your back or belly, so you keep flipping from the left side to the right.

The U shape pillow helps so much in the middle of the night. All you do is flip over and try to go back to sleep.

The C pillow was great, but my biggest complaint was having to readjust the pillow every time I wanted to switch sides, which is a lot when you get further along in the pregnancy.

#3 – Spinning Babies

The next must have for the second trimester is a program called spinning babies. Spinning babies have a parent/prenatal class and stretches to do throughout your pregnancy.

I started using spinning babies with my 4th pregnancy. I had sciatica(nerve pain) that started very early in my pregnancy. So I would look up some stretches to help, and that’s how I found spinning babies.

It was life-changing! I learned more about how my body worked during pregnancy, and it helped me know more about the baby’s position in the womb.

More details about pregnancy/birth at Spinning Babies Website.

Benefits

I had a posterior baby with my first labor, and I didn’t want back labor again with my last. Plus, the spinning babies program mentioned that the stretches help shorten labor, and I was all for it!

I did the stretches almost every single day. If I didn’t, my sciatica would quickly come back.

Overall, I’m SO thankful for spinning babies. Not only did I have shorter active labor(compared to my previous labors) with NO back labor, but I also had an easier time carrying my almost 8 lb baby during pregnancy.

Last Must-Have – Stability Exercise Ball

The last must have is a big stability pregnancy/exercise ball.

The ball helps to keep your pelvis in a better position by strengthening your stomach and back muscles.

Not only will you need it if you want to use some of the methods in spinning babies.

But the ball will be a huge must-have for the third trimester, especially the last few weeks of pregnancy.

I loved my exercise ball throughout my pregnancy and during birth—more on that in later posts. Stay tuned!
