Flylady Baby Steps – Using a Calendar

Today Flylady wants us to look at our calendar for the next month. Does anyone have a birthday, wedding, anniversary?

If somebody has a birthday, start preparing ahead of time. Buy them a gift, a birthday card, and a gift bag to put it in. Start planning ahead of time and schedule yourself an errand day to do all of the shopping.

“A day for everything; keeps us from living in CHAOS! Your Basic Weekly Plan gives you time to FLY and have fun!” ~FlyLady

If you don’t know what an errand day is and want to start creating your very own weekly plan, then read Flylady’s weekly basic plan for more information.

You don’t have to do it now. But you can start reading all about it.

A Quick Reminder

Routines are meant to work for you and your lifestyle. However, they also should be adjusted to your family’s needs. For example, you might need to tweak the routine monthly, seasonally, or when you have a massive change in your life(pregnancy/birth/move, etc.)

Calendar Tip

Buy yourself a large calendar and put it in your traffic zone wherever you walk by the most.

My favorite calendar for birthdays, invites, appointments, etc., is the Day Designer Brand. It’s a perfect size for my family’s needs.

I used to keep our calendar on my kitchen counter in our previous rental.

When we moved, I moved the calendar to the top of our living room cabinet, and I recently hung the wall calendar in our dining room.

Why Use a Wall Calendar?

I used to not use a wall calendar. Instead, I kept all of the important information in my head. But now that I have to keep track of so much important information, it’s nice to have all of the important dates written down—less chance of forgetting the appointments, birthdays, anniversaries, etc.

Another reason is for kids to keep track of what day it is. My children understand the weekly/monthly days so much better now that they have a visible calendar. They love crossing out the day of the week for me and reminding me when their dentist appointments are.
