Flylady Baby Steps Day 10 – Let’s Start Decluttering

Today, we need to set the timer for 15 minutes, go around the house, gather trash, and then throw the trash into the garbage bin.

One of the Flylady’s tips is that you can do anything for 15 minutes. She doesn’t want us to crash and burn.

Take Your Time, its Not a Race

We need to learn how to pace ourselves, one baby step at a time. Our homes didn’t get dirty in one day. It took days, weeks, months, or even years.

The 15-minute timer helps you to stay focused on the decluttering task. Don’t get distracted by your phone, computer, emails, etc.

Set the timer and go! When the timer goes off, you completed your first decluttering session.

Garbage Day

Day 10 reminded me about our garbage day. I always had a habit of gathering all of the trash in the house either the day or the day before our garbage day.

In our last house, our garbage pickup was later in the afternoon. So I made sure to have all the garbage in the bin by the curb in the morning.

Now our garbage gets picked up early in the morning. So I gather all the trash the day before the pickup when I collect all the trash from the bathrooms, kitchen, kids room, and even the laundry room.

15-Minute Timer in Action

Today I set the timer for 15 minutes and went around our house, gathering random trash that my kids left on the floor, the table, hot spots, etc.

After the timer goes off, we need to set the timer again for 15 minutes and do something nice for ourselves.

Treat yourself to getting things done around the house. Whether you want to make your favorite cup of tea/coffee, read a book, shower, sit in peace or play with your children.

The 15-minute break is an opportunity for you to recharge so you can continue on your day.
