Flylady Baby Steps Day 20

For day 20, we’ll be adding another step to our morning, afternoon, or before bed routine, which is to do a load of laundry per day.

To keep that mountain of laundry from overwhelming you, we need to have a system in place.

An overwhelming amount of dirty clothes all over the laundry room

Where we collect all of the clothes, whether, in your laundry room or the closet. I used to keep our laundry sorted in their individual laundry baskets in my closet(now it’s in my laundry room).

This way, I can sort my clothes without having to dump all of the clothes out when I need to throw a load in the washer. On the plus side, my kids can sort their laundry too.

Laundry Steps

The new baby step that we’ll be adding to our daily routine is all of the steps of doing the laundry.

  • Gather
  • Sort
  • Wash
  • Dry
  • Fold
  • Put Away

Catch Up?

This new step doesn’t mean that you need to “catch up” by washing all the laundry loads today, folding the mountain of laundry then putting everything away.

You’ll get exhausted by catching up.

Instead, we need to start doing one load per day from start to finish.

This way, we’ll keep practicing every day of completing all of the steps for doing the laundry. No more restarting the washer because you forgot to throw the load in the dryer, and no more wrinkled clothes in the dryer begging to be folded.

Laundry Tip

Flylady Diane’s tip is that we don’t have to do a load of laundry in the morning. Suppose we don’t have time in the morning to wash a load of laundry. Then we need to pick a time when it’ll work best for us, whether it’s in the morning, afternoon or the evening.

Just don’t forget to complete all of the steps of doing one load of laundry. Set your alarm if you have to and if you have kids, let them help.

Time yourself how long it takes to fold and put away one load of laundry.

You’ll be surprised how fast you’ll complete the baby step!
